Shurdingtons is located on the corner of Petticoat lane & Portland St, Penola.
A two room structure was built around 1880. The structure was constructed of red gum slabs & remnants of this exist in the building today.
In 1902-1903 Francis Shurdington rebuilt the existing house by raising the ceiling height, building four new rooms and two stone chimneys on the northern side. The kitchen was opened onto the back verandah.
Surrounded by a traditional workers cottage garden the cottage is supplied by its own rainwater.
Located in a rare South Australian State Heritage Area, very close to the Coonawarra Wine Region and adjacent to Mary MacKillop Schoolhouse....
