Just over 30 kilometres from the city is Point Lowly Lighthouse, a local icon. The safe nearby beaches are great for taking the kids and there is magnificent fishing from shore or boat. Diving in the area is fantastic particularly during the renowned Giant Australian Cuttlefish season. There are some excellent coastal scenic drives overlooking the Southern Flinders Ranges and usually rewarded with sightings of dolphins frolicking in the shallow waters. Over Easter long weekend there are over 750 anglers that converge on the city to compete in the annual snapper fishing competition.
